Frequently Asked Questions...
What is the BC Athlete Speakers Bureau?
The BC Athlete Speakers Bureau is an exciting new program that connects BC High Performance Athletes to speaking opportunities with organizations and events. The Speakers Bureau provides organizations and companies with an easy to use system, tailored to ensure they get the best experience out of working with athletes.
How does the BC Athlete Speakers Bureau work?
Using the BC Athlete Voice website organizations review the bios of different BC High Performance Athletes, identify the athlete that best fits their specific needs and then uses an online form, requesting the services of the athlete. Organizations are required to provide background information to ensure BC Athlete Voice can best prepare the athlete for the speaking opportunity.
What does BC Athlete Voice do?
BC Athlete Voice receives the request from the organizations and sends this through to the athlete. We then coordinate the connection between the athlete and the organization to ensure both parties receive all the relevant information and resources required for a successful event. BC Athlete Voice can also provide professional development and educational resources to athletes that want to improve their public speaking and presentation skills.
What are the benefits for Athletes:
Being part of the Speakers Bureau opens up many great opportunities for athletes including:
- The chance to connect with different companies and organizations that could lead to possible future sponsorship or employment opportunities.
- The ability to work on and practice key skills such as public speaking, making presentations and media relations.
- The opportunity to access additional funds through honorariums.
- The chance to increase your profile and marketability.
If an honorarium is paid, where does this money go?
All of an honorarium goes directly to the athlete.
Are my contact details available to anyone?
No, all athlete contact information is kept confidential. Companies or organizations interested in having you present will not be able to contact you directly, communication will come through BC Athlete Voice.

Can an athlete say "no" to a speaking engagement or presentation request?
Absolutely! We only want to connect athletes with the speaking engagements and presentation opportunities they feel comfortable with. For what ever reason there is no pressure for any athlete to say yes to any request.
Do I need to be an Olympian or World Champion athlete to be part of the Speakers Bureau?
No! Every athlete has a story and this is your opportunity to share your voice and experience - at whatever level. In the end it is up to the organization or company to choose which athlete they want to request. A provincial level athlete from a small community maybe perfect for one opportunity and a medal winning Olympian maybe best for another. However, if you don't become part of the program, you'll never know.
