PROUD TO PLAY LIKE A GIRL
Victoria area young women may apply for an individual grant through this program. Junior athletes, age 10 through 14 may apply for a “Fair Play Award” of $250 (6 awarded) to support their participation in training clinics, camps or other forms of athletic training. Girls, age 15 through 18 may be eligible for a Leadership Award of $250 (6 awarded) for coaching or leadership clinics, workshops or training/skill development.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Fair Play Awards (10 – 14 years)
  • Females ages 10 - 14 years are eligible for the award
  • Awarded to athlete for dedication, demonstration of fair play and determination
  • Award cheque will be issued to the recipient’s parent or guardian
Leadership Awards (15 – 18 years)
  • Females 15 – 18 years are eligible for the award
  • Awarded to athlete or coach for involvement in sports and demonstrating leadership and mentorship of young girls in sport and/or overcoming barriers
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ATHLETE MUST RESIDE IN THE CAPITAL REGIONAL DISTRICT IN ORDER TO BE EILIGIBLE FOR FUNDING.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

3.    Upon completion of clinic/camp the award recipient must submit a summary of the experience including a rating of the clinic/camp/workshop to ProMOTION Plus Victoria

BC SCHOOL SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS
The 400 Member Schools of BC SCHOOL SPORTS are pleased to announce this years BC SCHOOL SPORTS Scholarship Fund. The successful applicants will be student-athletes who have balanced their high academic achievements with significant success as school athletes and contributors to their community. 
 
Dave Gifford Scholarship ($1,500) each
Dave Gifford was a BCSS Director from 1988-90, and received the Honour Award in 1992. In his honour, these scholarships are for students who truly excel as a student-athlete.

ELIGIBILITY:
Dave Gifford Memorial Scholarship
·         Applicants must have competed in at least (2) two BCSS approved sports during grade 12.
·         Unsuccessful applicants for the Dave Gifford Memorial Scholarship will automatically be considered for their respective Zone Scholarship. (Please DO NOT complete 2 applications)
 
Zone Scholarship
·         Applicants must have competed in at least (1) one BCSS approved sport during grade 12.
·         Are in a B.C. School who are graduating this year.
·         Are entering their first year of full-time studies in a Canadian University or College.
·         Have demonstrated exceptional athletic achievement in a BCSS sanctioned sport.
·         Have a minimum grade percentage of 75%.
·         Have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership in school and/or community.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
1.     Complete the Application Form (check the Do’s and Don’ts on the BCSS website)
2.     300-500 word essay written by the student (2 typed pages maximum), including:
·         Description of your leadership and community service involvement
·         Your thoughts regarding the value of school athletics in your life
·         Future plans (scholastically and career, include University and Course)
3.     Two Letters of Reference
·         At least one letter of reference must be from a school representative (teacher, coach, counsellor, or administrator)
·         Each letter should be a maximum of 1 page (only 2 letters will be read by the Selection Committee)
4.     1 x Head & Shoulder Photo of Applicant
·         Print your name and school on the back of the photo.
·         1 X Colour or Black & White photo.

THE STACEY LEVITT WOMEN AND SPORT SCHOLARSHIP
The Stacey Levitt Women and Sport Scholarship is a generous donation made by the Levitt family. In memory of Stacey, the Levitt family wishes to encourage a young woman, a girl’s team, or a sport organization that exemplify Stacey’s ideals and qualities. This scholarship of $2500 is shared by five recipients 
ELIGIBILITY: 
  • Demonstrates a keen interest in sports and a healthy lifestyle
  • Takes the initiative to make positive things happen
  • Is highly motivated and enthusiastic
  • Strives to be the best and doesn't give up trying
High school and university/college-age women are encouraged to apply. Consideration will be given to financial need.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Submission Statement
A detailed submission statement that demonstrates your sport/physical activity experiences to date, how the scholarship will be used to advance girl’s/women’s participation in sport and physical activity, and the financial need for the bursary. The submission statement must be a minimum of 400 words and no longer than 3 pages in length.
 
Be Innovative
Feel free to be innovative with your submissions. Submit any supporting material that you think will demonstrate why you, your team, or organization should be selected as a recipient of the Stacey Levitt Women and Sport Scholarship (example: resume, photos, references, newspaper articles, etc.). SUPPORTING THE DREAM LEGACY FUNDThe goal of the legacy fund is to provide financial assistance to development level amateur athletes from the Okanagan who are aspiring to represent their community and country at the national and/or international level. The fund supports athletes that do not receive full elite level funding from federal and provincial government bodies. The legacy fund is supported by generous donations from communities, businesses, and individuals. A secondary objective is to create community involvement and support of the local aspiring athletes, and in turn have the athletes inspire people to lead healthy, goal-orientated lifestyles. The recipients of the bursaries are encouraged to give back to the communities through volunteer work.
 
The Supporting the Dream Legacy Fund may award Grants of up to $1,500 to deserving amateur athletes. 
   
ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for the Supporting the Dream Legacy Fund athletes must
 
1.    Athletes that compete in Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympic disciplines, or in appropriate cases to support athletes who compete in disciplines governed by national sport organizations that sanction international competition, are eligible to apply;
2.    Athletes should be competing at the National level or higher but may include Provincial level athletes competing at a Junior or Senior Nationals competition;
3.    Athletes must demonstrate a desire and plan to attain the next level of competition in their chosen sport;
4.    Athletes that receive full elite level funding from the Federal Government are not eligible for grants;
5.    Athletes should demonstrate a desire to give back to their community in a manner that suits their personality, talents, interests, and time available;
6.    Athletes will provide a written statement as to how the financial support aided them in their athletic pursuits.
  
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Applicants must submit the following:
1.    Fill out the application form
2.    Attach a letter of recommendation from your coach, teacher, or a representative from your sport federation. (The letter should include a character reference, a review of your ability and potential, and your commitment to sport).
3.    Sign the letter of consent.

Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship  
The vision and objective of the Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship is to support the development of young women who demonstrate the potential to reach Carol Anne Letheren’s vision and capabilities and who aspire to the same core Olympic values of Excellence, Leadership, Respect, Human Development, Fun, Fairness, and Peace. The Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship is a national, three-year, $1,500 per year, university scholarship.
 
 
ELIGIBILITY: 
To be eligible for the Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship applicants must:
 
1.    Be a female student presently applying to a Canadian University or college in Business, Sport Management, Marketing, physical education of related fields, commencing studies in September 2008. (Mature students will not be considered)
2.    Demonstrate qualities and personal values that personify the Olympic values of excellence, leadership, respect, human development, fun, fairness and peace.
3.    Be an accomplished athlete in high school, community or provincial level competitive sport(s). Athletes competing at a national level (junior or senior) will be given preference.
4.    Have achieved an outstanding academic performance with a minimum grade average of 85% or above in their final year of high school. (Please use a minimum of six course grades from the most recent courses completed to calculate this average. Please include interim marks from courses in your final semester, if you are still currently completing your final year).
5.    Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
   
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Applicants must submit the following:
 
1.  Completion of the Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship application form available on the COC website: http://www.olympic.ca/EN/funding/letheren_award.shtml 
 
2.  High school transcripts signed by the school where the applicant currently attends. If interim marks for the final semester are not yet available, please work with your teachers and or guidance department to calculate the average mark per class at the time of submission of the scholarship application.
 
3.  Documentation that confirms the applicant has applied for admission to a Canadian university or college.
 
4.  Two letters of recommendation:
 
a) One letter from a coach, teammate, or sport organization with which the applicant is associated. This letter should detail the leadership qualities the applicant has demonstrated in sport and about her sport achievements in general*.
 
b) One letter from a community leader or long-standing personal friend. The letter should confirm the applicant’s academic achievements, school and community involvement and demonstrate the personal qualities and values of the applicant*;
 
*Both letters should address the applicant’s athletic participation, pursuit of academic goals, and relationship with the person writing the letter and must accompany the application.
 
5.  One Essay responding to the following (between 500 – 1000 words): Specify how the selection of your college/university school program will impact your career in sport and business and describe the role that sport has played in your life, using examples of how you have demonstrated the qualities and personal values of excellence, leadership, respect, human development, fun, fairness and peace through your participation in sports and community involvement.
 
6.  A resume including your sports and academic achievements and awards, work and volunteer experience

Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund
OPPORTUNITY:
In keeping with their commitment to amateur sport in Canada, Investors Group established an Amateur Athlete Bursary Fund for Canada’s top amateur athletes in 2000. Working in partnership with AthletesCAN, the Fund awards twenty bursaries of $5,000 to Canadian amateur athletes each year.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
This bursary fund is open to any active senior national team athlete who:
  • Is deemed eligible and in good standing by the appropriate National Sport Federation representing the sport. This includes Paralympic, Pan American, Commonwealth, Olympic and Senior National Team athletes.
  • Is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant permanently residing in Canada.
  • Is committed to training and competing for Canada in the upcoming year.
  • Has a gross income, from all sources in the preceding year of less than $50,000. Athletes with an income greater than $50,000 annually, who demonstrate financial need may also be eligible.
  • This bursary is available twice to each athlete during their athletic career.
  • NCAA athletes should check with their school's NCAA Bylaw Compliance Officer to confirm if they are eligible
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
Athletes need to completed the application form (available at www.athletescan.com). The following must be included with the completed application form:
  • A one page letter outlining your community involvement
  • A one page personal letter outlining your life goals after your athletic career; your approach to sport; your goals for the future and what the bursary will be used for and its impact. 
  • One letter of reference from an organization for which you have been an active volunteer during the past twelve months.
DEADLINE:
Athletes must complete a Team Investors Group Amateur Athletes Fund Application form for activities in the 2007 calendar year and submit the original copy by mail to the AthletesCAN office by January 31, 2008. No faxed or emailed applications will be accepted.

PNE Miracle Mile Athlete Bursary
OPPORTUNITY:
Every month in 2008, a $500 PNE Miracle Mile Athlete Bursary will be awarded to a BC amateur athlete who demonstrates dedication to a sport and commitment to the community.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
In order to be eligible to apply for a bursary you must:
1) Be an amateur athlete
2) Compete regularly and competitively in any sport
3) Reside in BC
 
You are ineligible to apply for a bursary if you:
1) Have received the PNE Miracle Mile Bursary in the past
2) Have secured sponsorship and/or funding with a cumulative value of more than $1,500 in 2008
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
1) Complete the 3 page application (available online – check out the link below)
2) Provide one reference letter written by any employee or member of a non-profit, non-governmental or community organization that can document your commitment to the community OR one reference letter written by a coach or trainer who can document your commitment to sport.
 
DEADLINE:
You will need to submit all requested information by the 15th of the month before the month you choose to apply for. For example, the deadline for the February 2008 Bursary is January 15th 2007.
