BC Athlete's Talk About Their BC Coaches... Below are comments from BC Athletes who have nominated their coach for the ACE Coach Awards... "My coach is a dedicated community leader and inspiration for athletes of all ages. She is always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with the youth of the province. She is committed to early morning, late nights and long hours of training in big groups and smaller groups to give every athlete what they need to become a better field hockey player. She incorporates fun, fitness and skill into her programs and let's everyone be competitive and still enjoy the spirit of the game." "I don't always agree with my coach, but I do always respect them and what they have to say." "I can't say enough about my coach, she's awesome and one in a million." "My coach is great because he produces winning teams while still keeping the sport fun. He brings an aura of confidence and experience to every practice. He focuses on making us do the best we can, rather than on winning. It just so happens, that this philosophy produces winning teams." "My coach is awesome and someone I continue to learn from at each practice and in every game." "Rain or shine, my coach will be there with his positive attitude and love for the game." "Another great thing about my coach was that instead of just watching and critiquing the drills he actually joined in and did them as well so then he could see them from a players point of view. He often refers to a quote that says "good players work till they get it right, but great players work till they can't get it wrong" and uses that to motivate us." "My coach teaches us to treat people with respect and to work hard and help others" "I look to my coach for support and guidance. She is there when I need support but is also pushes me when I'm slacking off." "My coach is great because she has taken me from barely knowing how to skate to competing at the Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships. She is able to coach me with respect and making sure that I am having fun along the way. She wants me to be a good athlete but better yet wants me to be a good person." "He is always positive when dealing with athletes and has their best interests in mind. He is an extremely educated and innovative coach while maintaining a very humble attitude. He is always open to and respectful of athlete feedback, respecting their knowledge and experience and incorporates their feedback into their programs." Our coach is very competitive and that is what we like. We like to be pushed and challenged and she expects us to live up to the standard that we set. She is one of those coaches who leads from behind. She watches us and she challenges us to get "uncomfortable" so that we can be comfortable. I trust her totally. She is the type of coach who has no favorites, we are all her favorite. She is pretty simple... work hard, play hard... and make sure you have fun!
